The cog railway in the High Tatras transports passengers on the Štrba – Štrbské Pleso line. Štrba, like Poprad, is an important tourist destination in the High Tatras. It is a steep grade railway where the transmission of traction force is provided by a cog wheel (pinion) engaging in a toothed rack rail in the axis of the track. In 2022, the three old units were replaced by five new hybrid electric cogs, which bear the names of the lesser-known peaks of the High Tatras and in addition to Cog Railway, can also run on the Tatra Electric Railway.

The carriages have seating and standing areas, air conditioning, ticket validating machines, ticket vending machines (card payment only), trash bins, electrical outlets, bike and ski holders, a pram area, information boards and luggage storage. Each stop is announced through the loudspeaker and the next stop together with the final one is always displayed on a TV screen in two parts of each tram.

There is no toilet in the carriages.
