Mengusovská dolina

Mengusovská dolina is 8 km long branched valley, abundantly visited by tourists. Its streams create river Poprad. Shorter trails head from Štrbské Pleso (red-marked trail ) or from train stop Popradské Pleso (blue-marked trail ) to the centre of the valley to Popradské pleso and to Symbolic cemetery (memory of the deceased in the High Tatras). At Popradské pleso the valley divides to the north-eastern Zlomisková valley and north-western Mengusovská dolina. Through this valley, there goes blue-marked trail up to a basin Hincova kotlina and to the side basin of Žabie plesá (red-marked trail ). Hincova kotlina is lined with rocky amphitheatre of Mengusovské peaks, Kôprovský peak and Čubrina. In the closure of the valley, there lies Veľké Hincovo pleso (area of 20.08 ha, depth of 53.7 m – the biggest and the deepest tarn in the Slovak part of Tatras). Through Vyšné Kôprovské sedlo, there is a possibility to cross to Kôprová dolina (blue-marked trail ) or go way up to Kôprovský peak (red-marked trail ) with magnificent views of the surrounding valleys and peaks. Kotlina Žabích plies (“the basin of frog tarns”) is separated from Hincova kotlina by the south ridge of the dominant pyramid peak of Volovec. Around Žabie tarns, there rises a red-marked path up to Dolinka under Váh to the Chata pod Rysmi (Chalet under the Mount Rysy, 2250 m, mountain chalet at the highest point of Tatras) pass a massive rocky edge (fixed by chains). Through saddle Váhy, there rises a path up to the mostly visited peak with beautiful views Rysy (2499.6 m, state border).
