Facts about the hike:Total Hiking time: 6-8 Hours Difficulty level: heavy Trail mark colours: Red, Blue, (Green) Vertical profile: Strbske Pleso (1355 m) - Vazecka dolina - Krivan (2495 m) - Tatranska Magistrala - Strbske Pleso (1355 m) The ascent to the summit of Krivan is one of the most attractive hikes of the Tatran peaks and the peak is the national symbol of Slovakia. It is an unforgettable experience for every true mountain hiker! The trail begins either from the parking lot under the south end of Strbske lake or alternatively from behind the sanitorium Solisko (red trail). From this point the hike goes through Furkotska dolina valley to Jamske pleso lake (about 50 minutes hiking time). In front of Jamske pleso turn off the red trail onto the blue trail and cross the Vazecka dolina valley and proceed upwards to the southest ridge of Krivan massif, called Predney Handel, to the pass Daxnerove sedlo under the summit of Little Krivan. (70-100 minutes). Following the route of the pass to Krivan summit takes another 40 minutes. From the top of Krivan (2,495 m) there are some breathtaking views to be seen of the western Slovak and Polish Tatras and of the Liptovoska kotlina valley. There are two alternative routes that may be taken for the return journey. Follow the Blue route to Strbske or the descent from Krivan by the green route via Vysna Priehyba and Grunik to the bus stop "Tri Studnicky" and then to St. Pleso by bus. This hike is only open between 1st July and 31st October each year.

High Tatras:
The town of High Tatras was founded in 1947 and it has a population of 5,000 residents. The Administrative centre of the town is Stary Smokovec, which together with Tatranska Lomnica and Strbske Pleso provides the focal point for one of the three most important Tatra tourist resorts. High Tatras covers an area of 398 square km and is one of the largest cities in the Slovak republic.
