Dolny SmokovecFounded: 1881 Altitude [m]: 890 The largest Tatran ventre for the treatment of upper respiration diseases. This kind of treatment became the prime function of the settlement and only later in the part of Pod lesom was the building of apartments begun so that people employed in the Tatran facilities could be accommodated. Thanks to these developments the settlement became the initial focus for skiing centres and valleys of central parts of the High Tatras.

High Tatras:
The town of High Tatras was founded in 1947 and it has a population of 5,000 residents. The Administrative centre of the town is Stary Smokovec, which together with Tatranska Lomnica and Strbske Pleso provides the focal point for one of the three most important Tatra tourist resorts. High Tatras covers an area of 398 square km and is one of the largest cities in the Slovak republic.
