Policemen from Poprad, the High Tatras and Zakopane will be cooperating.
Municipal police of the towns High Tatras, Poprad and the polish Zakopane will cooperate more to protect the safety and the property of the citizens of their towns, but also tourists and visitors both on the slovak and polish side of the High Tatras.
“After the borders opened, the commuting of tourists, but also of criminals has rapidly increased. What used to take a few hours, can be now done in tenths of minutes” says chief of the High Tatras municipal police Jozef Štefaňák. Tourist on both sides of the border still lac the information on who to inform if a problem occurs. The Tatra policemen today introduced a bulletin program SAFE TOURIST, which was expanded to polish and german version, to their colleagues from Zakopane and Poprad. Previously it was available only in slovak and english the bulletin contains phone numbers of the municipal and state police, not only on the slovak, but also on the polish side of the High Tatras. The bulletin is also to warn the tourist about the “black-market accommodation” which they can come across when visiting the High Tatras. The tourist are offered accommodation on the streets or in the parking lots, but not all of the “businessmen” have good intentions, accents the bulletin. The second warning concerns the vehicles of the visitor, and accents not to make a shopping window out of your car. “The opportunity spawns the thief” added Štefaňák. The bulletins will be available in all the hotels and accommodation facilities in the High Tatras. The municipal policemen of the High Tatras can be clearly identified, even more starting this winter. The standard uniform and a hat with a check board was expanded by a light-reflecting jackets with a check board. “The police are known for check boards abroad. Officer in a light-reflecting jacket will not blend in to the crowd. People are used to this from abroad” said Štefaňák.
